The Creation – a rare chance to hear a performance of this dramatic choral work

28 March @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Saturday 28 March 2026 at 7.30pm

The Creation  by Joseph Haydn (1732 -1809)

An opportunity to hear Haydn’s choral masterpiece sung by the joint choirs of Wakefield Festival Chorus and Pontefract Choral Society.  The orchestral accompaniment includes a string quartet, tympany and the Binns organ, built in 1894, and considered one of the finest organs in Yorkshire played by Shaun Turnbull. Soloists are Soprano – Lucy Relins, Tenor – Robin Lowery-Morton and Bass – David Cane

The concert  takes place in the historic church of St Giles Church, Pontefract,  a church which has stood at the heart of the town since the 12th century and was significantly enlarged in Haydn’s lifetime to include the landmark tower.

The Creation re-tells this familiar story, from book of Genesis, with musical drama and colour.

Tickets: £12
